What is the Oilcode?

The Trade Practices (Industry Codes - Oilcode) Regulations 2006 (the Oilcode) is an Australian Government Regulation under the Trade Practices Act 1974. The Oilcode is a mandatory industry code that came into effect on 1 March 2007.

It regulates the conduct of suppliers, distributors and retailers in the petroleum retail industry in Australia.

Areas covered by the Oilcode include:
• Certainty of supply of certain petroleum products
• Disclosure documents and information given to fuel resellers
• Advice sought by fuel resellers before entering a fuel reselling agreement
• Cooling off period after entering a fuel reselling agreement
• Length of fuel reselling agreements
• Renewal, renegotiation, variation and termination of fuel reselling agreements
• Fuel resellers forming or belonging to associations.
• Dispute resolution.

The Code does not apply to fuel supply agreements of less than 30,000 litres each month.
